MEET JESS

Perth-based brand and media strategist, storyteller, and former runaway committed to putting WA’s travel, food, and wine experience makers on the map.

Bon vivant: French, literally, good liver. No, not the organ, but one who ‘lives well’ (though the other doesn’t hurt either).

Inquisitive, independent and just a little bit fearless, Jess was always going to land in the wide world of travel.

Leaving country WA for her first solo trip overseas at just 20, she almost didn’t return. But return she did—if only to complete her studies—before leaving again on a one way ticket precisely one day after her university graduation. This time, she wouldn’t be back for several years.

“I never feel more myself than when I'm alone in a new city. I got into this business for what, I’m betting, is the same reason you did. Because I can’t imagine doing anything else.”

Landing in the East Coast’s biggest metropolis, Jess began her career with TravMedia, the travel industry’s global media network connecting thousands of media and PR professionals worldwide.

Her personable yet professional manner made her an instant hit with Australia’s community of award-winning freelance writers, producers, digital publishers, and editors at the nation’s top food and travel glossies.

Her career soon took her from Sydney’s glittering harbour to the wild streets of London Zoo (aka, the launching pad of everybody’s favourite icon, Sir David Attenborough), where she spent two years championing the attraction’s new exhibits, crucial conservation work, and some truly unique events (ask her why a group of tigers is really called a streak over your next drink).

But not even daily hangs with the office’s resident lions, tiger cubs and baby sloths could keep her out of WA forever.

So, after several years and adventures to places as far flung as Costa Rica, Ireland, and South Africa in between, Jess returned home in 2019.

A series of exciting roles at Crown Perth, social media specialists Coffey & Tea, and digital marketing conference, State of Social, soon followed before Jess left the corporate world behind for a new freelance one in March of 2021.launched

It’s Jess’s mission to bring her years of national and international marketing experience, natural gift for storytelling, and Australia-wide media connections home to WA’s travel, food and wine community.

In her almost 10 years in the industry Jess has done it all, from PR and events to brand and advertising, copywriting, email marketing, social media management, and even a stint in sales.

No matter what the medium is, it’s Jess’s knack for getting to the heart of a brand and finding the stories that will hook an audience—and an editor—that ensures the message lands.

Something of an old or just old-school soul, when Jess is actually home you’ll find her curled up with a book (don’t come at her with your kindles and how much easier they are to travel with, she won’t have it) or singing along to her latest find on vinyl (currently spinning: Diana Ross, 1970).
